Aari embroidered mask with peacocks

During the pandemic, many Indian textile artisans transferred their skills and designs to COVID facemasks, creating beautiful objects that also promote local traditions and identities. They were supported and marketed by arts organizations such as the Kala Chaupal Trust. For this mask, an embroiderer of the famous aari tradition in Rajasthan used chain stitches and beads to create a pair of dazzling peacocks. The mask simultaneously protects, allows the wearer to dress in style for formal occasions, and promotes this ancient craft.
