Free SZFE Mask

The yellow cotton canvas mask, printed in the middle with a black circle and a hand raised in STOP, was the logo of the Autumn 2020 demonstrations organized by over 5,000 students protesting against the limitations of academic freedom imposed by the new leadership of the University of Theatre and Film Arts Budapest (SZFE). The formerly public universities were handed over to foundations by the Hungarian government. The governing boards of these foundations consist mainly of persons who publicly support the political and cultural agenda of the Hungarian Government. These changes led to the resigning of several university professors and gathered support from several world famous artists. The participants and many other people wore such masks with this sign to express their sympathy. The masks were widely sold, and the profits were donated to the students to support their efforts.
