Piña mask
The cream-coloured sections of this handcrafted mask are made of pineapple leaf fibre (piña). It was designed by Beatriz “Patis” Pamintuan Tesoro, an artist, designer, and heritage conservationist based in the Philippines. In the 1980s, Tesoro revived weaving with pineapple fibre, and created new fashions with piña cloth for Manila’s catwalks. By further incorporating hand drawn thread work and local embroidery styles into her line of fashionable COVID-19 masks, she celebrates her heritage and Filipino identity.
