Clothing the Pandemic

A Virtual Exhibition of COVID-19 Face Masks from Around the World

PENIS PRINT FACE MASK

In 2012 the Dutch and international fashion press couldn't stop talking about Bas Kosters' 'penis leggings'. The leggings (also part of the museum collection), decorated with a print of various penises, typify the activist and rebellious character of Kosters: "every human being should rebel". And what better way to do that than in an outfit complete with mouth mask? Kosters created the mouth mask of the leftovers he kept in his atelier and was one of the first Dutch designers making masks at the beginning of COVID-19.
