The goldfish symbolizes abundance and good luck in Peranakan and Chinese culture and became his signature of the year. He is known for preserving Peranakan beadwork and embroidery traditions through Peranakan-style fashion. Peranakan communities trace their ancestry to migrants who married locals in island Southeast Asia with a distinct, hybrid culture.
