Clothing the Pandemic

A Virtual Exhibition of COVID-19 Face Masks from Around the World

Love is all you need mask

During the many long months of lockdown in India, Mala Sinha of the Bodhi textile printing studio in Vadodara, Gujarat, generously assembled a collection of over 100 handcrafted masks from across India for the Royal Ontario Museum, to support makers and document their creative pivoting to mask making. Among them was Bodhi’s own face mask printed with the words “love is all you need,” the famous Beatles refrain that summarizes the fundamental, universal emotional need for family and friends — reinforced by the experiences of the pandemic.
