Clothing the Pandemic

A Virtual Exhibition of COVID-19 Face Masks from Around the World

Poppy Print Mask

New York designer Michael Kaye started making face masks early when the pandemic hit, and has now produced over 3,000.  This mask is made from a Liberty of London cotton poppy-print fabric and was selected by the curators of the exhibition "Head to Toe." The poppy print style alludes to the era of the 1918 flu pandemic when these flowers marked the graves of fallen soldiers of World War I.
