Clothing the Pandemic

A Virtual Exhibition of COVID-19 Face Masks from Around the World

Upcycled shirt mask

By Walid is a zero waste, sustainable, modern luxury fashion and home design company that upcycles antique textiles. The re-used shirt masks arrived in the studio on 4 August 2020 with the news of the devastating explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, that killed over 200, and displaced over 300,000. Immediately, the British-Iraqi designer Walid Al Damirji, donated the proceeds from mask sales to charities supporting the survivors, illustrating not only the generosity of COVID-19 mask-makers, but also the complexity of life during the pandemic.
